Safety Buoy
Introduction
What is a safety buoy?
A safety buoy is an accessory that you can carry with you during activities in the water and that provides more safety. It gives you extra buoyancy and visibility when you need it. There are buoys made of solid material – the famous Baywatch buoy, for example – there are swimming buoys, which are already inflated on land and pulled along in the water, and then there is the RESTUBE safety buoy: the most compact format of a swimming buoy, as it is packed into a small pouch and inflated only when it’s needed with a pull of the trigger and using a screw-in CO2 cartridge. Optimal for use in open water swimming, such as in triathlons. A swimming buoy is an essential accessory for anyone who enjoys spending time on and in the water. It increases your own safety and the safety of others, because it can also be handed to a person in need.
Want to know the difference between a swim buoy and safety buoy is? Read our comparison of Safety Buoy vs. Swim Buoy for the full breakdown.
How does a safety buoy work?
A quick tug on the trigger is all it takes, and the safety buoy inflates via the CO2 cartridge in seconds. Simply lean over the flotation device to keep your head comfortably above water, giving you the valuable time and peace of mind to orient yourself or regain your strength. You can also use the buoy to actively draw attention to yourself; when towed behind you while inflated, the bright signal color ensures you are perfectly visible on the water at all times.
Your RESTUBE safety buoy is also designed to help others in difficult situations – just hand the inflated buoy to someone in need for instant buoyancy. This provides you and everyone around you with true peace of mind and the confidence to enjoy your time in, an and around the water together. After use, simply repack the buoy and insert a new cartridge to get ready for your next adventure. For a step-by-step look at the handling and functionality, feel free to watch our instructional videos on YouTube.
What are the benefits of a safety buoy?
The additional buoyancy provided by a RESTUBE safety buoy can provide relaxation and also be crucial for safety in many situations. Either to you or someone else when you pass on the buoy. With a buoy you will also be seen more easily and can draw additional attention to yourself by waving. The yellow signal color of the RESTUBE safety buoy is ideal for this purpose. In addition, many models with us are equipped with a whistle. This allows you to emit an audible signal. You can also buy the whistle separately, retrofit your buoy, or just use it as is.
What is a safety buoy for?
Using a safety buoy during water activities increases the safety of the wearer and also of other people in the water. The buoy provides you with additional buoyancy when it is needed. If you carry a safety buoy yourself, you can also hand it to someone near you who may be in distress. This will prevent you from putting yourself in danger trying to help someone. You can also use a safety buoy to attract attention by waving it.
What materials are used for the manufacture of a safety buoy?
Nature and treating it responsibly are very important to us. That's why we use environmentally friendly processes and materials wherever we can. Our manufacturing is completely PVC free. Only high quality and durable nylon TPU material is used in all RESTUBE models.
When is it necessary to use a safety buoy?
A swimming buoy is recommended for any activity in and around water, as a swimming buoy greatly increases safety. The additional buoyancy provided by a swimming buoy when needed can be crucial and quickly defuse a critical situation. RESTUBE safety buoy is the extremely compact version, because the buoy itself is packed in a pouch and inflated only when necessary via CO2 cartridge. Until then you can carry the buoy in the pouch on a strap around your waist or directly on your equipment. At the same time, you can enjoy complete freedom of movement and extreme freedom, knowing that additional buoyancy is just a pull of the trigger away. RESTUBE safety buoy can also be inflated at any time using the mouth valve and used as a swimming buoy that you pull behind you in the water, providing you with permanent visibility. It has almost no resistance in the water and you can dive with it even through waves. It’s perfect for open water swimming such as in triathlons.
Which critical situations in the water make it crucial to have a Safety Buoy?
Critical situations can arise during any water activity, where our safety buoy can play a crucial role in ensuring your safety.
Possible emergencies that may occur include:
- Fading Power
- Others in need
- Too far from shore
- Unexpected current
- A cramp or health issues
- Worried about the kids/parents
- Loss of orientation
- Panic
- Lost or broke your equipment
- Sudden weather changes
- Rough water conditions
- Boats and other people in the water
- Entangled in water plants
- Contact with poisonous sea creatures
- Injured on rocks or reef
- Circulatory problems / health issues
- Too deep down
Even if you're good at your water sport activity, something unexpected can always happen. With the Safety Buoy, you're prepared for any situation and can enjoy your activity with peace of mind.

Can I use the RESTUBE safety buoy more than once?
Yes, after replacing the CO2 cartridge, the safety buoy is immediately ready for use again. The sales package contains the safety buoy incl. an original RESTUBE CO2 cartridge that must be screwed in before use. After use, RESTUBE safety buoy is very easy to prepare for use again: Deflate, insert a new cartridge, fold the buoyancy chamber according to the printed instructions, and stow the whole thing in the pouch! ATTENTION: Only original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges are 1.) 100% quality tested, 2.) seawater resistant, 3.) level tested and 4.) the necessary release force is matched to the release. The cartridges comply with the standard for life jackets DIN EN ISO 12402-7. If other cartridges are used, it cannot be guaranteed that the safety buoy will fill without problems in an emergency and the trigger may be damaged.

How can the RESTUBE safety buoy help me?
The most effective way to immediately contain critical situations in the water is to have additional buoyancy right next to you. The safety buoy is so small that you can always have it with you and it doesn't affect your mobility in the water. But if you want buoyancy, all you need to do is pull the trigger. You can also pass the buoy on to someone else or wave it to draw attention to yourself.
Is the RESTUBE safety buoy intended for everyone, regardless of their stature?
RESTUBE ACTIVE, EXTREME, AUTOMATIC and LIFEGUARD have a buoyancy of 75 Newtons, which can lift around 7.5kg out of the water. In a critical situation it is most important that the airways are not submerged, i.e. that the head is above the water up to at least mouth. To do this, about 4kg must be lifted out of the water. If you lean over the buoy, the RESTUBE safety buoy buoyancy is sufficient. BEACH has a drive of 50 Newtons, which lifts about 5kg out of the water. This is also sufficient for an adult, even if the 75N versions of the safety buoy are of course a bit more comfortable.
Does the RESTUBE safety buoy pull me up?
Yes, if you dive and release the safety buoy under water, the buoy pulls you up. It is connected to the safety line with the belt. The same amount of gas always flows into the buoy, which means that at sea level and room temperature it is well filled. When you dive, the ambient pressure increases by one bar for every 10 m of water depth, and at the same time the buoyancy force is reduced in depth, as the gas is compressed.
This results in the following buoyancy depending on the depth:
0m depth = 1 bar = full buoyancy = 75N = 7.5kg
10m depth = 2 bar = half buoyancy = 37.5N = 3.75 kg
20m depth = 3 bar = third buoyancy = 25N = 2.5 kg
30m depth = 4 bar = quarter buoyancy = 18.75N = 1.87 kg
40m depth = 5 bar = fifth buoyancy = 15 N = 1.5 kg
As soon as you get higher again, the resulting buoyancy of the buoy increases until it is fully available again at 0m/sea level.
Is the RESTUBE safety buoy permitted in competitions?
In principle, inflatable buoys such as the RESTUBE safety buoy are permitted, but only as long as they are not inflated. The World Triathlon Federation committee has also confirmed that the safety buoy is permitted in all World Triathlon competition formats. We recommend that you always check with the event organiser to ensure that you are complying with the rules.
Is there a weight limit for the RESTUBE Safety Buoy?
If you lean over the buoy, the RESTUBE safety buoy lifts your airways - in other words, your head up to your mouth opening - out of the water. The part from the head to the mouth is about the same weight for most people. That means it is independent of the height or weight of the user. For more comfort through more buoyancy, ACTIVE or EXTREME is recommended.

How can I help others with the RESTUBE safety buoy?
Another person close to you is in trouble? This is a critical situation in which you have to be very careful! In no case should you swim to the person without a float, as even a child can develop enormous forces in a panic situation, which can be dangerous for an adult. Even with a float, such as a RESTUBE safety buoy, you should be in very good shape and ideally trained in rescuing other people. It is best to hand the inflated elongated buoy to the other person from a safe distance and wait to see if the situation stabilizes. In any case, you should seek further professional help and never put yourself in danger.
I am a very good swimmer, so why do I have a need for a RESTUBE safety buoy?
Even good swimmers are not immune to an accident or a problematic situation in the water. You can get a cramp or suddenly become exhausted. You can get caught in a current or the weather can change. All these situations can cause you to panic. Additional buoyancy usually relaxes you immediately, allowing you to get your bearings and regain your strength.
Also, other people in the water can always be in trouble. By giving them a buoyancy aid such as the safety buoy, you can often provide effective help without putting yourself in danger.
Can I dive under a wave when the RESTUBE safety buoy is released?
Like a lifeguard buoy, the safety buoy can also be pulled inflated by the belt behind you. The resistance can not be felt in the water and you can also dive through waves very well.
Can I give a RESTUBE safety buoy to my children?
The safety buoy is recommended for good swimmers from the age of 10. The child must understand that, in an emergency situation, he or she must trigger and lean over the top of it. It’s best to let your child try the safety buoy a few times in shallow water while you’re there, so he or she can experience how easy the release works and how well the buoyancy can help immediately.
How do I screw in the cartridge correctly? / How do I get my RESTUBE safety buoy ready to go?
To make your RESTUBE safety buoy ready for use, you need to screw in an original RESTUBE CO2 cartridge and put the safety buoy correctly folded back into the bag. New RESTUBE safety buoy include a cartridge in the package. In our “How to pack” (see our Manual page) videos we show you step-by-step how to pack your safety buoy correctly before its first use and after each release of the cartridge to ensure proper functioning. ATTENTION: Only the original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges are 100% quality tested, seawater resistant, level tested (exactly 10.9g for RESTUBE BEACH or 16g for ACTIVE, EXTREME, AUTOMATIC and LIFEGUARD) and have a cap matched to the trigger with the appropriate trigger force. The cartridges comply with the standard for life jackets DIN EN ISO 12402-7. If other cartridges are used, it cannot be guaranteed that the safety buoy will fill without problems in an emergency and the trigger may be damaged.
How do I pack the Safety Buoy again?
You can find detailed instructions on how to pack Restube in our blog: /blogs/news
Why do I need a RESTUBE safety buoy?
The safety buoy is so small and robust that you can always carry it with you. With a pull on the trigger you have a lift for yourself or others in seconds! The RESTUBE safety buoy is not a substitute for a life jacket or armbands - because it is intended for all those areas of use on the water where it was previously not possible to carry safety with you, because there was nothing that was so compact and light before inflating. The safety buoy is similar to a Swiss Army knife: you are prepared for a wide variety of situations.
How do I attach RESTUBE safety buoy to my body?
The safety buoy is attached to a belt around the waist and is designed to not interfere with swimming and other activities. The safety buoy can also be attached directly to equipment such as a harness.
How do I attach the LED to my RESTUBE safety buoy?
Instructions for attachment are included in the LED packaging. The LED light is attached to the buoy by pointing the light towards the inside of the buoy. The reflective strip is glued to the back of the LED and is best smoothed with a pack of tissues. You should wait 24 hours before using it in the water, as the reflector is only then fully glued to the buoy.
Technology
What exactly is the RESTUBE Safety System?
The RESTUBE Safety System is the world's most compact safety solution for your time in the water. This innovative technology is at the heart of all our buoys, combining an robust inflatable buoy with a reliable CO2 trigger mechanism. Stored compactly in a small pouch, the system is worn directly on your body, ensuring it never restricts your movement.
It doesn’t hold you back; it gives you the freedom to explore. In an emergency, the system delivers full buoyancy in seconds. The RESTUBE Safety System is multifunctional and ready for any situation on the water. It is designed for reusability – simply replace the CO2 cartridge after deployment or use the integrated oral valve for manual inflation. Engineered to be unobtrusive while you are active, it provides essential peace of mind and immediate lift when you need it most.
How do the RESTUBE Safety Buoy models differ in construction and intended use?
The choice of the right RESTUBE Safety Buoy strongly depends on the intended activity and the forces involved:
RESTUBE BEACH/ ONE
The models are designed for swimming and use in calm water, such as lakes or beach without significant waves.
👉 Not suitable for surfing or strong wave conditions.
RESTUBE Active
The right choice for swimming without a board in more demanding conditions. It features a reinforced eyelet, specifically designed to withstand higher tensile forces.
RESTUBE Extreme
Developed for surfing and situations with high loads. This model is structurally reinforced and clearly the recommended option for board sports.
Note on the construction of Beach / One:
For a certain period, RESTUBE Beach / One used a stitched connection instead of a metal eyelet. This connection is intentionally designed for lower breaking loads and also functions as a predetermined breaking point.
Important: The buoy itself always remains intact, even if the leash were to fail.
To date, no leash failure has occurred during proper use.
Outlook:
As part of a product standardization, we will switch all models back to the proven eyelet solution from 2027 onwards. This change comes with higher production costs and, consequently, adjusted retail prices.
Chose the wrong model?
No problem: The product can of course be returned and exchanged for a different model.
For surfing, we clearly recommend the RESTUBE Extreme – we are happy to offer an upgrade with a surcharge.
What is the difference between RESTUBE BEACH, ACTIVE and EXTREME?
RESTUBE BEACH has a buoyancy of 50N and is ideal for families, children and seniors for leisure activities on and in the water. It is also suitable for stand up paddlers in swimwear in the summer - wherever there are no swimming aid regulations. RESTUBE ACTIVE has 75N buoyancy and is ideal for swimming or stand-up paddling, for training or competitions. RESTUBE EXTREME has a buoyancy of 75 N and is suitable for rough conditions when kite- and windsurfing, surfing or in professional use.

Can I take RESTUBE safety buoy on the airplane?
Yes, you can transport your RESTUBE Safety Buoy on an airplane. However, there are a few rules that should be followed.
Quick overview
-
Safety Suoy without CO₂ cartridge: Transport possible without restrictions
-
RESTUBE CO₂ cartridges (16 g / 10.9 g): Are pressurized and considered dangerous goods in air transport
-
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the German Federal Aviation Authority (LBA), up to two cartridges per safety buoy are allowed on airplanes
-
In the United States (TSA), cartridges are only allowed together with the safety buoy
-
The final decision always lies with the airline, security personnel, or the pilot
Important steps for bringing RESTUBE on an airplane
1. Contact the airline before departure
Inform the airline about your safety buoy and the number of CO₂ cartridges you are carrying. Ideally, do this directly after booking or at least 48 hours before departure.
Ask the airline for written confirmation (e.g., by email) and carry a copy with you.
2. Transport the safety buoy and CO₂ cartridges separately
Carefully open the Velcro closure of the pouch and remove the buoy from the bag without triggering it.
Then unscrew the CO₂ cartridges from the safety buoy.
3. Store the CO₂ cartridges, documents, and buoy together in a transparent bag
According to IATA regulations, up to two CO₂ cartridges per safety buoy may be carried on board. Place the cartridges together with the information flyer “Flying with RESTUBE” — included in every RESTUBE package and also available here (BEACH 10.0 g CO2 Cartidges or all other safety buoys with 16 g CO2 Cartridges) – as well as the LBA or TSA information documents in a transparent resealable plastic bag. Also include the confirmation from the airline.
4. Carry the CO₂ cartridges in your hand luggage
We recommend transporting the safety buoy including the CO₂ cartridges only in your hand luggage, not in checked baggage.
This allows you to explain the product to security personnel if necessary.
The safety buoy without CO₂ cartridges may also be transported in checked baggage.
Alternative: Travel without CO₂ cartridges
If you want to avoid any risk, you can travel without cartridges and inflate the Safety Buoy manually by mouth at your destination.
Please note that when using the safety buoy without a screwed-in cartridge, a trigger protector should be used to protect the internal triggering mechanism.
Important notice
Not all airport or ground staff are familiar with these regulations.
Following the steps above may increase your chances of being allowed to carry CO₂ cartridges, but transport cannot be guaranteed, as the final decision always lies with airport security, the airline, or the responsible pilot.
From our experience, flights to or from Egypt can sometimes cause issues because security regulations are occasionally interpreted more strictly. For travel to Egypt, we therefore recommend travelling without CO₂ cartridges.
All documents and other information are available here.
The safety buoy is losing air. What should I do?
Normal air does not diffuse through the fabric of the buoy, but CO2 diffuses very slowly. About a quarter of the total volume is released within 24 hours. When inflated with normal ambient air, the float remains plump. In our quality assurance department, we check every single buoy for air tightness. If the air-inflated buoyancy body loses air significantly within 12 hours, please contact us.
Where can I get the RESTUBE Ready Connector?
The RESTUBE Ready Connector can be bought in the RESTUBE online shop.
In which languages are the instructions for use available?
The detailed printed instructions for use are enclosed in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian & Dutch. For other languages, please simply inquire (info@restube.com.ph).
Where was RESTUBE developed?
The idea of RESTUBE came to founder Christopher Fuhrhop after a difficult situation in the water. From the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) he developed the idea up to the prototype and piece by piece his own production was set up in cooperation with experienced production partners.
How long is the included hip belt?
The length of the hip belt varies for each version. The BEACH and ACTIVE models feature a 120 x 2.5 cm belt, while the EXTREME comes with a slightly wider 120 x 3 cm strap. Need a bit more room? We offer an XL belt extension that goes up to 155 cm.
What is RESTUBE safety buoy?
RESTUBE safety buoy is a product for more safety in the water. Small and light, RESTUBE safety buoy is always with you. Simply strap it around your waist or on your equipment and get into the water. If necessary, pull the trigger vigorously and the yellow safety buoy inflates in seconds. If you lean over the buoy, your head rises out of the water. Now you have time to orientate yourself and recharge your batteries. RESTUBE safety buoy is perfect to provide buoyancy for yourself or for others.
Is RESTUBE safety buoy a replacement for a life jacket?
No, it is not a substitute. RESTUBE safety buoy is the most versatile system for more safety in the water. Anyone who needs an approved swimming aid in vest form, for example for stand-up paddling in Switzerland, can use the pfd by RESTUBE. In any case, always follow the local rules and regulations. Safety concerns us all!
What are the dimensions for RESTUBE BEACH, ACTIVE and EXTREME?
RESTUBE BEACH: 160g, packed: 15 * 6 * 4 cm, released: 50cm, buoy diameter 13 cm. RESTUBE ACTIVE: 195g, packed: 14 * 7 * 4 cm, released: buoy length 65cm, buoy diameter 13cm, RESTUBE EXTREME: 255g, packed: 14 * 8 * 4cm, released: buoy length 65cm, buoy diameter 13cm.
What do you do if you’ve lost the mouth valve?
Don't worry! Thanks to an integrated check valve, your RESTUBE buoy stays airtight and reliable even without the cap. The cap is mainly there for hygiene and to make deflating the buoy cleaner and easier. If yours is gone, just send us your address using our contact form, and we’ll ship you a free replacement right away.
How does RESTUBE safety buoy work?
When you need a boost for yourself or others, pull the trigger. The sealed CO2 cartridge is pierced and fills the buoy in seconds. If you lean over the safety buoy, it will lift your head out of the water. You can also wave the buoy to attract attention.
Why is RESTUBE safety buoy not a Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)?
Here lies an important technical distinction: The fundamental requirement for a classic PPE item (such as a certified lifejacket) is that it protects passively and without any action on your part — keeping you afloat automatically, for example, in the event of unconsciousness. The RESTUBE Safety System was deliberately designed differently: it requires an active trigger in an emergency and your involvement (leaning over it). This is why it does not fall under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. Because the RSS is by definition not PPE, it cannot be certified as a lifejacket. But the safety buoy was never meant to be a lifejacket — rather, it's designed for situations where you need more freedom of movement and different forms of buoyancy. Our system meets the highest quality standards and opens up entirely new fields of application.
We like to compare this to avalanche airbag backpacks or the airbag in a car: these are life-saving innovations that took many years to receive their own standards, simply because they didn't fit into any existing category. The RESTUBE Safety System is designed for maximum freedom where a rigid vest would get in the way. It's a backup system that sets new standards for freedom of movement.
For further technical information on PPE and swimming aids, please refer to the DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance).
What is the green clip good for?
The green clip was used on older Safety Buoy versions to indicate that a new CO2 cartridge has been screwed in. If the Safety Buoy was triggered, the clip would fall off into the water and a red dot would become visible. The clip only served indicative purposes and had no technical function. Therefore does the lack of it not affect the function of your Safety Buoy in any way. Yet, if you own an older Safety Buoy model and really want the clip, then we can send you one. For this, we would need your address.
The new Safety Buoy models BEACH, ACTIVE & EXTREME (lifeguard starting 2022) have a new, modern display system that works completely without a clip falling into the water. We are working hard on LIFEGUARD, AUTOMATIC and PFD in order to be able to offer these products without a clip. But since the seeming less and proper function is very important to us, the development with all the necessary long-term tests can take over a year.
Where can I find the manual?
The manual is enclosed with your Safety Buoy in the packaging. If you no longer have a manual, you can download the manuals for all RESTUBE products here. Each instruction manual is available in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch.

How safe are the RESTUBE products?
We believe in German engineering and uncompromising quality. Developed directly in Germany, every RESTUBE product undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it's your ultimate backup when it matters most. It provides fast buoyancy, but like any safety product, performance also depends on correct use and proper care. It's more than just gear; it's peace of mind. Wearing a RESTUBE buoy gives you the mental freedom to focus on what you love – the water, the movement, the experience. When you know you're prepared, you stay calm and perform better. Just remember: True safety is a partnership between our high-performance equipment and your own smart decisions in the water.
Where can I buy RESTUBE products?
You can buy RESTUBE products in more and more sports shops around the world. If you like the idea of RESTUBE, support us as a young company and simply ask the retailer you trust about Restube. You can also buy RESTUBE products directly in our online shop.
Why should the mouth valve only be emptied with the cap, and why doesn’t it clamp tightly?
Safe buoyancy is one of the most important functions of RESTUBE. Even if the mouth valve cap is accidentally opened or you want to re-inflate the buoy with your mouth in the water, the buoy should not lose any air. Therefore, deflation is only meant to happen with the cap. To do so, the cap must be pressed down into the valve opening. If you stop pressing down, the valve closes again immediately. Do not try to deflate the buoy with your finger or other objects to avoid damaging the valve.
CO₂ CARTRIDGE
How much pressure is in the cartridge?
The pressure at 20 ° C is approx. 57 bar, the CO2 in the cartridge is then partly in the liquid state.
Can RESTUBE BEACH burst if you accidentally install a 16g cartridge?
The safety buoy has been developed so that it does not burst if a 16g cartridge instead of a 10.9 is accidentally triggered. However, the safety buoy is then very tight and in extreme heat it can be damaged after a while. So you should only use the 10.9g cartridge for BEACH. If the safety buoy is ever too tight, simply push in the check valve (mouth valve) to release some pressure.
How much content does a cartridge have?
Almost all versions contain 16g or 21ml CO2. This creates a volume of approx. 7.5 l at room temperature. The RESTUBE BEACH has a smaller filling size in the cartridge of 10.9g, which creates a volume of just over 5 liters.
Can I use other cartridges such as the bicycle pump cartridges as replacements?
No. Only our RESTUBE cartridges are checked for exactly 10.9g or 16g filling quantity and are compatible with the trigger and have a special alloy for salt water resistance. If other cartridges are used, the safety buoy cannot be guaranteed to function properly.
How much does a cartridge weigh?
The CO2 cartridge with 16g content weighs 60g, the one with 10.9g content weighs 40g.
How long can the RESTUBE safety buoy be used as soon as the CO2 cartridge is inserted?
Even if the cartridge has been installed in the safety buoy for a long time, the safety buoy is always ready for use, as the CO2 cartridge is sealed and is only pierced when triggered. It is only important that the CO2 cartridge is not pierced. Please note the maintenance instructions in the manual.
Traces of corrosion or rust can be seen on the cartridge. Is that bad?
A slight misting up on the cartridge and the release thread is completely normal with frequent use in the water. It does not affect the release function, but rather is a purely visual flaw. Depending on the environment, it is also possible that a clearer dark gray layer of corrosion can be seen on the cartridge. However, this is also not a problem for the function, because a form of protective layer is deposited on the special alloy, which protects the cartridge from further corrosion.
Where is the cartridge produced?
The cartridge is produced in Austria by our long-term partner iSi according to the highest lifejacket standards.
How many times can a CO2 cartridge be used?
A CO2 cartridge can be used to trigger the Restube once. Afterwards, the empty CO2 cartridge must be removed, and a new original RESTUBE CO2 cartridge must be inserted.
This is simple, and only takes a few steps. You can view an instruction video here: /blogs/news
You can also blow up the Restube manually using the mouth valve. This is a practical option if you are using the Restube as a swimming buoy, or for snorkeling.
You can purchase a 2-pack of original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges from our shop!

16g CO2 cartridge: /products/co-cartridges-16g
Are the cartridges being refilled?
No. Because of legal reasons refilling disposable cylinders is prohibited and technically not feasible. As a valuable raw material, the cartridges are returned via the collection of recyclables.
What kind of gas is in the cartridge?
As with the life jackets in the airplane or on boats, the cartridges contain CO2 gas. Not to be confused with the gas from the cream dispenser cartridges (N2O gas = nitrous oxide).
How do I change the CO2 cartridges?
How to get the safety buoy ready for use again is explained in detail in the instructions as well as printed on the buoy and bag. Attention: RESTUBE only guarantees its functionality when used with the original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges.
First any contamination (e.g. sand) must be removed from the safety buoy, the trigger and the CO2 cartridge. Then the empty CO2 cartridge is unscrewed from the trigger and disposed of in the recycling center. Then fold in the release lever. Check the new CO2 cartridge for damage before screwing it in and make sure that the puncture cap is closed. Then screw it firmly into the release mechanism.
Care
Care
Take care of your RESTUBE product after every use. The five minutes help ensure that you have a good time with it for a long time.
- Take the buoy out of the bag and examine all parts for external damage: bag, buoy, trigger, release line and CO2 cartridge. All components should not show any signs of wear or severe rust, or be damaged.
- When using in and on salt or chlorine water: Rinse the removed buoy and bag with the mouth valve closed and the cartridge screwed in well with clear water. If it is heavily soiled, clean it with a mild detergent or a weak lye and rinse with clear water. Do not use cleaning agents that contain alcohol or solvents.
- The float and bag are dried hanging open. Then pack the system in dry conditions and according to the packing instructions.
Make ready for use
Pack the dry RESTUBE product according to its packing instructions. Make sure that the old pierced and punctured cartridge has been replaced with a new, functional one.
NOTE: Only use the original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges, otherwise the inflation function may be impaired. The cartridges correspond to EN ISO 12402-7, as well as UL 1191. They are 1. matched to the trigger and have a very thin puncture cap for this, 2. weighed for the exact filling quantity of the float and 3. have high seawater resistance.
Disposal
The bag and strap can be disposed in the general waste. The CO2 cartridges may be disposed in an empty state in a suitable recycling box for metal. They are made of high quality special steel and are therefore a valuable raw material.
Please be sure to observe the local waste disposal regulations!
Lifespan & shelf life
RESTUBE products are designed for a long service life and, depending on the version, for 50 to 250 (*) uses. The device used must be outside of the packaging, well ventilated and stored at a maximum of 28 ° C. The maximum service life is 5 years from the date of purchase in compliance with the care and maintenance instructions.
With frequent use (more than once a week) and use in tropical climates, the service life can be shortened accordingly. If the humidity is high, the device should be taken out of the box. Do not place RESTUBE products on the heater and do not dry or store them in direct sunlight.
My RESTUBE safety buoy is 5 years old. What to do now?
It's great that you've been using the safety buoy for so long! Water safety is our number one priority and we are happy about anyone who feels the same way.
As described in the instruction manual, your safety buoy is designed to last 5 years from the date of purchase - provided you follow the care and maintenance instructions. The quality of RESTUBE products are very high, but UV light and salt water for example can stress the textile material over the years.
We make RESTUBE products better every day and therefore older products and their history are very valuable, especially for our development department. Therefore, we would like to offer you to return your old safety buoy to us. You will then receive a -30% discount to be used when buying a new RESTUBE product in the online shop.
Please write to us at info@restube.com.ph. Thank you very much!
What is the best way to dry my RESTUBE product?
Take the buoy out of the bag. With the mouth valve closed and the cartridge screwed in, rinse the RESTUBE safety buoy and bag with clear water (particularly important if previously used in salt or chlorinated water). If heavily soiled, you can clean with a mild detergent or weak lye and rinse with clear water. Do not use detergents containing alcohol or solvents!
Dry the buoyancy chamber and bag hanging. Then repack the system according to the instructions. Do not place the safery buoy on a radiator and do not dry or store it in direct sunlight.
Trigger test
The best thing to do is to release your RESTUBE product in the water, then you can experience the buoyancy right away. Then unscrew the cartridge on land and pull the trigger as if you were triggering the trigger. The mandrel must move within the socket for the cartridge.
What should I look out for during a visual inspection?
Check all components for damage, wear or deposits:
bag & seams, belt strap & buckle, buoy, trigger, trigger cord, CO2 cartridge & CO2 cartridge thread (to do this, unscrew and screw in the cartridge)
Mouth valve test
Open the valve cap and depress the mouth valve to release some of the CO2. Then the mouth valve must seal completely again. Then empty the buoy completely through the mouth valve. Then inflate it tightly through the mouth valve using your mouth only.
How often should I service my RESTUBE product?
At least annually, as well as before long-term use. You should also perform maintenance after each individual use.
Can I inspect and maintain my RESTUBE product on my own?
You can carefully carry out the maintenance on your undamaged RESTUBE product yourself. If you are unsure, contact us by email: info@restube.com.ph
We will be happy to do the checking for you - you will then have to pay for the shipping costs and any spare parts.
NOTE: Never repair your RESTUBE product yourself!
Air tightness of the buoy
Leave the buoyant body completely inflated with the mouth in a place with a constant temperature for 24 hours. If it loses a lot of air during this time, the product must be replaced.
NOTE: Pure CO2 will slowly diffuse through the float material. It is therefore normal for the buoy filled with pure CO2 from the cartridge to deflate slowly over 15-30 hours.
Swim Buoy
What kinds of shapes can Swim Buoys have?
A Swim Buoy floats behind the swimmer and is also often equipped with a waterproof dry bag for personal belongings. Inflatable Swim Buoys come in different shapes and sizes. The RESTUBE SWIM BUOY is “tube-shaped”. For this reason, the English word “tube” is part of the name RESTUBE. The inflatable SWIM BUOY is 76 cm long and has a diameter of 35 cm. Its shape and size are perfect for open water swimming, such as triathlons. They significantly increase the safety of the wearer. There are also other forms of Swim Buoys designed for specific applications.
How much do Swim Buoys cost?
The prices of Swim Buoys vary, as does the quality. Our SWIM BUOY has been extensively tested and is made of high-quality, durable materials. The buoy is completely PVC free, as we only use high-quality nylon TPU material. Try our Swim Buoy in open water swimming or in a triathlon and ensure increased safety for yourself, as well as others, with visibility and extra buoyancy when you need it. The inflatable SWIM BUOY PRO is available for ₱4,199. Sign up for our newsletter now to make sure you don’t miss out on any of our special offers!
What are the differences between a swim buoy and a swim buoy Pro?
Both products are recommended if you need permanent visibility and additional buoyancy for emergencies in the water.
If you want a dry compartment to store your belongings, the swim buoy Pro is your choice. The same applies if you want to add cool accessories such as a mobile phone case, action camera or shoulder straps.
Additional safety features such as reflector strips, LED light and whistle can be added to both models.
How heavy can I be for the swim buoy to keep me afloat?
When you lean over the buoy, it lifts your airway - the part from your head to your mouth - out of the water. The part of the head up to the mouth is about the same weight for most people. This means that the swim buoy works regardless of the user's height or body shape.
Can I use the swim buoy several times?
You can use the buoy many times - and good maintenance helps!
If you use your buoy in salt or chlorinated water, rinse it with fresh water after use. Also, allow it to dry thoroughly before storing it until the next use.
How do I attach the add-ons to the swim buoy Pro?
You can expand your swim buoy Pro with cool add-ons like the waterproof, touch-sensitive smartphone case. The RESTUBE READY interface, located in the centre of the buoy, makes it easy to attach add-ons. You will need the READY Connector, available from the RESTUBE online shop, to connect to the add-on. It is very easy to use!
More information about the READY Connector can be found here: /products/restube-ready-connector
How do I maintain my swim buoy?
Rinse your swim buoy with fresh water if you have used it in salt or chlorinated water. Always allow your buoy to dry before storing it until the next use. You can also dry it with a towel if you need to do it quickly.
How do I pack the buoy so that no air remains in it?
Make sure there are no objects in the drying compartment of the buoy. Then flatten it towards the opening to remove all air from the drying compartment. Then begin to roll up the buoy, pushing the cap into the mouth valve to keep it open.
Caution: If there is any air left in the drying compartment, the buoy will not roll up completely. Repeat the smoothing process and roll the buoy up again.
How long is the included waist belt?
The standard belt supplied can be adjusted to a minimum length of 36cm and a maximum length of 67cm. Is this too short for you? In the RESTUBE online shop you can purchase a belt of up to 115 cm in length, which is compatible with all RESTUBE products and can be easily replaced on your buoy.
Where do I dispose of my swim buoy?
If your buoy is showing signs of wear and tear and is no longer a reliable partner in the water, send it back to us! Our upcycling programme creates new products from discarded RESTUBE buoys.
To ensure a smooth process, please email us in advance at info@restube.com.ph.
Thank you very much!
The swim buoy is losing air. What should I do?
The swim buoy consists of an air chamber, the swim buoy Pro consists of an air chamber and a dry bag, which can also be filled with air in addition to various utensils.
If the air chamber of your buoy loses air, please check that the mouth valve is properly closed. If air is still escaping despite correct closure, you can return the buoy to us and we will replace it. Please contact us in advance by email (info@restube.com.ph) to ensure a smooth exchange.
If your drybag is leaking, first make sure it is used correctly: Wrap the lower end of the buoy three times around the marking lines. Then close the buoy with the clip fastener.
Why are Swim Buoys important?
Swim Buoys are very important to have for water sports in open water. Swim Buoys ensure visibility when swimming and participating in triathlons. This makes it easier for other water sports enthusiasts, passing boats, or lifeguards and emergency services to recognize you. Also, Swim Buoys provide buoyancy whenever you need it. For example, if you want to take a break in the water, regain your strength, or need to get your bearings. Additional buoyancy increases your safety considerably and can often quickly defuse a critical situation. You can also separate the Swim Buoy from you and pass the buoyancy to another person. The SWIM BUOY also offers you a separate waterproof compartment, a dry bag where you can store useful things like running shoes, keys, and energy bars.
How are Swim Buoys installed?
Many Swim Buoys are attached to a strap that is worn around the waist. There are also models that you can wear on your arm or even with your backpack system. However, these variants have more disadvantages than advantages according to our tests. The SWIM BUOY for your safety when swimming in open water comes with an adjustable waist strap and the rope length of the buoy can be adjusted individually.
Where can you find Swim Buoy?
You can find a Swim Buoy wherever water sports accessories and water sports safety equipment are sold. At RESTUBE, we specialize in water safety products. Our inflatable SWIM BUOY with integrated waterproof dry bag is perfect for open water swimming, such as triathlons. It is worn with a strap around your waist and provides visibility and extra buoyancy when you need it. The Swim Buoy has almost no resistance in the water. Test it yourself on your next open water adventure!
How big is a Swim Buoy?
The size and length of a swimming buoy can vary. The SWIM BUOY is 76 cm long and has a volume of 12.5 liters. The buoyancy is specified in Newton and amounts to 125N – which corresponds to about 12.5 kg. This is sufficient for an adult leaning over the buoy. This keeps the head and airways above water. A Swim Buoy with a length of 76 cm in the signal color yellow is also ideal for ensuring visibility while swimming in open water – for your safety!
Add-Ons
Drybag
What do you use a drybag for?
Think of it as your adventure-proof storage. A dry bag holds anything you don’t want wet or dirty – from phones and spare clothes to cameras. With waterproof material and a roll-top seal, it keeps everything safe from rain, waves, and sand. RESTUBE goes further, adding buoyancy and low weight, so you can take it swimming, paddling, hiking, or trekking without a second thought. Your focus stays on the adventure – your gear stays dry and ready.
Are Drybags really worth it?
Absolutely. A drybag keeps your essentials safe from water, sand, dust – even harsh sun. Perfect for SUP, kayaking, or travel, RESTUBE drybags are heat- and UV-resistant, so your phone, camera, or snacks stay protected even on the hottest days. Light in weight and naturally buoyant, they won’t slow you down – or sink if they fall overboard. It’s a smart investment in lasting protection that makes every outdoor trip easier and worry-free.
What is the best drybag?
The best drybag is the one that meets your requirements! Think about what you want to use the drybag for and what items you want to put in it. At RESTUBE you can choose between 5 different sizes. The smallest drybag holds 5 litres. It is ideal for your ID card, smartphone, small valuables and a bunch of keys. The 10 litres drybag is suitable for energy bars, wallet, sunglasses, small towel and your water bottle. The medium size has 20 litres of space for your items. Clothes, towels, shoes, camera, toiletries and sun cream can be safely stowed in this drybag. With the 30 litres drybag you can bring even more equipment, e.g. foods & drinks or a first-aid-kit. The largest drybag by RESTUBE has 40 litres of space. In this one you can easily pack clothes & shoes for several days or even bring camping equipment with you.
What is a "Trockentasche"?
Trockentasche is the German term for dry bag. It is a bag that uses waterproof material and a special closure to ensure that your utensils remain protected from water. We offer the drybag by RESTUBE in five different sizes: 5 litres, 10 litres, 20 litres, 30 litres and 40 litres. And we have another special product! In addition to the air chamber, our swim buoy by RESTUBE also has an integrated dry bag, which holds 12 litres. With the RESTUBE swim buoy, you have buoyancy and safe storage space for your equipment in one product.
Can I put electronic devices such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop in the drybag?
Drybags primarily offer protection against splashing water and rain and can usually withstand short-term immersion in water. However, they do not fulfil any standard that confirms 100% waterproofness. We therefore advise against storing sensitive items “only” in a drybag. For guaranteed protection, it is best to use one of the IPX8-certified cases from Restube or FIDLOCK. The IPX8 standard belongs to the IP protection classes (Ingress Protection), which specify the degree of protection of electronic devices and housings against the ingress of water and dust.
How big should a drybag be?
The size of your drybag depends on what you want to use it for and what items you want to transport with it. We have tested the 5 litres, 10 litres, 20 litres, 30 litres and 40 litres drybags by RESTUBE for you and can make the following recommendations based on our experience:
- The 5 litres drybag is suitable for your ID card, small valuables, a bunch of keys and your smartphone.
- You can store a lot more in the 10 litres drybag, for example your wallet, sunglasses, a small towel and your water bottle.
- In the medium drybag by RESTUBE, which holds 20 litres, you can store a change of clothes, towels, a camera and book, toiletries and sun cream.
- The 30 litres drybag offers even more space for your gear. You can pack clothes, shoes, towels, some food and drink and a first-aid-kit in it.
- The largest drybag by RESTUBE holds 40 litres and is ideal if you want to bring multiple things or are planning a longer trip. For example, it can hold clothes and shoes for several days, as well as a towel, food and drink or even some basic camping equipment.
Is the drybag by RESTUBE also available at Decathlon?
Yes, the drybag by RESTUBE is now also available from Decathlon. You can buy the drybag in five different sizes online in the Decathlon webshop Germany, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
Are Drybags 100 % waterproof?
They’re highly protective against rain, splashes, and even short dips in the water – but no dry bag can promise complete waterproofing. For sensitive tech, RESTUBE recommends pairing with an IPX8-certified case. Used correctly and without overpacking, your gear will stay dry in everyday conditions, though long-term or deep submersion isn’t guaranteed. In practice: trust it on the water, but don’t take it scuba diving.
Backpack straps
How do I attach the shoulder straps to the swim buoy?
The swim buoy has an eyelet at the top end and two eyelets at the bottom end, into which the shoulder strap can be hooked accordingly.
How long are the shoulder straps for the RESTUBE swim buoy?
The shoulder straps have a maximum length of 80 cm and a minimum length of 50 cm. They can be adjusted very easily to the individual stature. The width of 7 cm also makes it comfortable to wear.
RESTUBE READY Cam Connector
How do I fasten my action camera to the swim buoy? Do I need additional parts?
You can attach your action camera quickly and easily! The swim buoy by RESTUBE already has a RESTUBE READY patch. All you need to complete the attachment is the RESTUBE READY Cam Connector. Connect the RESTUBE READY patch with the Cam Connector, then attach your camera and you're ready to go!
What action cameras can I fasten to the holder on the swim buoy?

Swimming cap
Why is a swimming cap compulsory?
In some swimming pools, especially in public facilities, swimming caps are compulsory, primarily for hygiene reasons. This is because hair can cause impurities in the water, which in turn leads to more chemicals being used in the water. Hair can also clog filters and pumps in swimming pools. Wearing swimming caps reduces such problems and can therefore help to minimize maintenance costs.
Another reason for mandatory swimming caps arises in connection with swimming events and competitions. The swimming cap minimizes water resistance. If every participant wears a swimming cap, the competition conditions are standardized and fair, as everyone has the same resistance.
Does it make sense to wear a swimming cap?
There are situations in which wearing a swimming cap makes perfect sense. For example, to protect the hair from chlorine, salt water and other chemicals in swimming pool or sea water. This is particularly important for people with colored hair, as chemicals can dry out and damage the hair. Some swim caps also cover the ears, providing protection from water and possible infection.
Wearing a swimming cap also reduces water resistance, which is important for competitive swimmers. Reducing water resistance and thus improving glide in the water can lead to better performance.
Swimming caps also improve hygiene in the pool as they prevent hair from getting into the water.
What hairstyle to wear under a swim cap?
The type of hairstyle that is best worn under a swimming cap depends on the length of your hair and, of course, your personal preferences. We have a few tips for different hair lengths.
For short hair, it is often sufficient to simply press the hair flat against the head before putting on the swimming cap. Some use hair gel to ensure that the short hair lies smooth and flat against the head. Medium length hair can be tied in a low ponytail before the swimming cap is put on. A bun or braided hairstyles can also help to ensure that the hair lies flat against the head. With long hair, it is often most effective to tie the hair into a tight plait and then wrap it around the head in a loop before putting on the swimming cap. It is important that the hairstyle lies flat on the head so that the swimming cap fits snugly and to minimize water resistance.
What are the benefits of a swim cap?
A swim cap has several functions when swimming. Firstly, it protects your hair from chlorine and other chemicals in pool water. Chlorine can dry out your hair and make it brittle, so a swimming cap is particularly useful for people with colored hair. On the other hand, a swimming cap also ensures that the water is not contaminated with hair, which in turn contributes to better water hygiene.
A swimming cap also helps - and this is particularly important for open water swimmers - to minimize heat loss through the head. The swimming cap is therefore also heat protection.
The smooth surface of the swimming cap also reduces water resistance, which is particularly beneficial for competitive swimmers. By reducing the resistance, the swimmer can glide through the water faster.
The complete set for sporty swimmers
What's the predetermined breaking point by RESTUBE?
Situations may arise where you may want to part with your safety buoy in a matter of seconds.
For example, because the line has snagged on a stone – rivers pose a risk in this respect. You can open the belt around your waist with one click and completely separate yourself from RESTUBE safety buoy.
However, if this is not possible, the predetermined breaking point will help, as it automatically separates the safety buoy from the line from a pull of 15 kg.
The predetermined breaking point is reusable, just slide the eyelet onto the buoy again.
Who is the complete set for sporty swimmers suitable for?
For active swimmers, open water swimmers and triathletes.
Open water is risky and requires optimal preparation to minimize the dangers and maximize the enjoyment.
This kit is ideal for swimmers and open water athletes who want to feel safe and comfortable during their activities.
The individual products together cover many sources of danger and allow you to concentrate fully on swimming.
Ice swimming safety kit
Who is the ice swimming safety kit suitable for?
The set is suitable for all lovers of cold water - whether experienced or new to it.
The various products increase safety enormously when ice bathing and ice swimming.
And they play a decisive role in ensuring that the ‘cold dip’ is a great experience every time.
Waterproof smartphone case by RESTUBE & Fidlock
Can I use the mobile phone case under water?
Touchscreens do not work under water. That's why you can't operate your touchscreen under water through the cover. However, if you want to take photos underwater, for example, you can do this on most smartphones by clicking on the volume button when the camera app is already open.
What is the best waterproof smartphone case?
The best waterproof smartphone case for you depends on your individual requirements. Size, weight, compatibility with other products are decisive, but also whether you want to continue using your mobile phone when it is stowed in the case. The waterproof smartphone case by RESTUBE allows you to operate the screen of your phone through the surface of the case. This is very practical for making settings or answering a call in the water without having to take your mobile phone out of your pocket and run the risk of it falling into the water.
Reliable protection is important for anyone who explicitly wants a waterproof case. Here you should pay attention to the standard that the cover fulfils. The waterproof mobile phone cover by RESTUBE fulfils the IPX8 standard. The IPX8 standard is part of the IP protection classes (Ingress Protection), which specify the degree of protection of electronic devices and housings against the ingress of water and dust. The number "8" indicates the degree of protection against water. In the case of IPX8, this means that the device is suitable for permanent immersion in water under defined conditions.
The team at Stand-Up Paddling has tested and evaluated various mobile phone cases and gives you an overview of the most important points to consider when buying. You can find the Test here.
For which water activities is the waterproof smartphone case suitable?
The waterproof smartphone case by RESTUBE is suitable for many activities! Whenever you do water activities and want to have your mobile phone with you, the mobile phone case provides the necessary protection. And not just for your phone, you can of course also safely store other small items such as your car keys or cash in the case.
The RESTUBE team has already found the mobile phone case to be very practical when stand-up paddling, boating and swimming in summer. The mobile phone case is indispensable on the beach, as it not only protects against water, but also against sand and dust!
Is the waterproof case only suitable for a smartphone?
You can certainly also place other small items you need to access quickly inside the case, such as your credit card or money, or an energy bar you want to eat while you are training.
Why should I attach the cell phone sleeve to the swim buoy?
When you place your cell phone in the waterproof cell phone case and fasten it to your swim buoy by RESTUBE, the case will not disrupt cell phone reception or the GPS signal. This cannot be ensured if your cell phone is in a sealed dry sack. In addition, you can also operate your cell phone in case of an emergency to make an emergency call, since your smartphone remains touch capable through the case.
What cell phone models can be used with the RESTUBE waterproof cell phone case?
The waterproof cell phone case is suitable for all smartphones, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and more up to a size of 17cm (6.8 inches).
°hf Connect SUP Board Leash
Should I choose a SUP board leash with waist attachment?
Wearing a leash in combination with a belt around the waist is preferred by many today. It is comfortable and does not restrict freedom of movement. In fast-flowing waters, a leash with a belt should definitely be chosen. If the leash gets tangled on obstacles, the current can pull a stand-up paddler down. The quick-release function on the belt allows the paddler to quickly separate from the leash and thus from the board. The °hf Synergy belt is also equipped with the RESTUBE READY interface, which is used to attach a restube. Should you need to separate from the board, Restube gives you extra buoyancy and visibility.
Should I use a coiled SUP board leash?
A coiled leash is today's standard. The leash expands to its full length only when the person falls into the water. Before that, it is tightened and does not drag in the water. This reduces the risk of accidents, as the leash does not easily snag on branches in the water, for example. In addition, a coiled leash does not brake because it does not drag in the water.
How long should your SUP Board Leash be?
The leash should be at least as long as the board. This way, in case of a fall, the board is far enough away not to injure the paddler.
SafeTrx ACTIVE Watch
Where does my subscription fee go?
The subscription fee is required to cover the following: Network connectivity and data costs that are paid to network providers to support "always on" connectivity and roaming.
Contributions made to any affiliated rescue organisation who will receive a portion of every subscription payment. Hardware and software costs associated with providing the SafeTrx cloud and services platform.
While the SafeTrx platform costs are consistent across countries, the rescue organisation contribution and network fees can vary by country resulting in different subscription costs.
Why doesn´t the watch have standard smart watch features?
The SafeTrx Active mSafety is a dedicated search and rescue watch with built in direct connectivity to the national rescue coordination centre and is not a sportswatch.
SafeTrx Active allows you to record and share your activities in real time which many sportswatches cannot do. Using SafeTrx Active will allow the search and rescue authorities find you quickly if you get into trouble.
Many of the features on a standard smart watch would actually be detrimental to the primary function of SafeTrx Active. SafeTrx Active is focused primarily on safety and support for the rescue services in emergency situation, meaning that we prioritise battery length and location services over other typical smart watch functions.
How long will the battery last?
In passive or standby mode it should last for several days. When in activity tracking, assistance or alerting mode, the device will be carrying out per second tracking with network communications every minute, which will significantly reduce the battery life. It will typically last approximately 7 hours in one of the tracking modes.
Do I need my phone to use my SafeTrx Active Watch?
No, you do not need a phone to use your mSafety. Unlike other watches, because it is always connected, you do not need a phone to use your mSafety at all.
You may carry out your initial account setup on your phone, but this can just as easily be done on any PC or laptop. You can also look at your previous activities on a phone or desktop.
There is no requirement though to pair your watch with your phone and you can leave your phone on shore or even at home when you go out with your mSafety. You don't even need to sync or upload activities to your phone, they'll be picked up automatically from the SafeTrx Cloud.
Why should I use a SafeTrx Active watch instead of other smartwatches?
The SafeTrx Active watch is quite different from other smartwatches. SafeTrx Active is a dedicated search and rescue watch with built in safety features that will provide help when you need it most, including direct connectivity to national rescue coordination centres.
Most other consumer smartwatches, such as the Apple Watch, use normal LTE band for cellular connectivity. The mSafety from Sony uses LTE-M which is a better communication technology for small wearable devices.
How is SafeTrx Active different from SafeTrx Maritime on smartphones?
In general, SafeTrx Active is targeted more at open water sports where a smartphone may be difficult to operate and the user can benefit from a wrist worn solution.
SafeTrx Maritime is a more detailed application that is suited to users on a boat where the environment is suited to carrying a phone and they have more time to submit details and manage their trip. For both solutions, the unique partnership with SafeTrx means that emergency alerts are sent directly to the rescue organisation's monitoring console.
The main differences between SafeTrx Active and SafeTrx Maritime are as follows:
Operating Platforms
The SafeTrx Active application operates on the dedicated mSafety wearable from Sony and can be purchased online direct from SafeTrx by clicking here. The SafeTrx Maritime application operates on Apple and Android Smartphones and must be downloaded from the App and Play Stores.
Range Using the LTE CAT M1 networks long range capabilities, the SafeTrx Active application on the mSafety wearable can receive a cellular signal where the SafeTrx Maritime application on a Smartphone cannot.
Feature Set
There are features available on the SafeTrx Active wearable such as Strava integration that are not available on SafeTrx Maritime. Likewise, SafeTrx Maritime offers number of tracking options and features such as nautical maps, weather, local VHF channels and group tracking that are not available on SafeTrx Active.
Can I use the SafeTrx Active Watch under water?
Yes, the SafeTrx Watch is certified to IP68, an international standard rating which covers usage to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes.
Note that the SafeTrx Watch cannot receive GPS location data while underwater but we have seen the mSafety connect to cellular networks while underwater. If you have started an alert or assistance request while at sea, it is still recommended to try and keep your arm out of the water to maximise the chances of getting a good signal and good GPS location. The software on the watch expects this to happen. By constantly tracking in real time, we improve the opportunity for the watch to receive location data and transmit it when you arm is above the water.
Additionally, the watch uses a technology called LTE-M, which is different to the standard LTE technology used by phones and other connected watches. This technology is specially designed to support devices that need a long battery life or are used in locations that are difficult to reach with normal LTE technology since it has a longer range and greater penetration.
Where can I use SafeTrx?
SafeTrx Active has been launched first in countries where we already have a SafeTrx presence and where there are existing arrangements with rescue services. We are also dependent on the technical infrastructure of the network carriers in countries to support the SafeTrx Active Watch. We launched in the Netherlands, where we have a long standing relationship with the KNRM and the Dutch Coastguard and Norway in cooperation with our partner RS. In Germany we work with "Die Seenotretter". In these countries, we offer full integration to the rescue services. We hope to expand the country list as we expand our SafeTrx family and the network capabilities become available. Additionally, we intend rolling out to other countries, where we do not have partnered rescue organisations but the network capabilities do exist, offering just the SafeTrx buddy to buddy alerting system, which still offers great benefits to the user. The first country we launch with this format is Switzerland where the solution can provide added security for all outdoor sports. Below is a list of the countries where SafeTrx is currently available for purchase: Denmark Germany Netherlands
Do I need a SafeTrx Active Watch to use SafeTrx Active?
Yes, in order to use SafeTrx active at this time, you will need to purchase both the SafeTrx mSafety Watch from Sony and also an ongoing subscription that covers data, rescue and SafeTrx services.
Why do I have to sign up for a subscription?
We'd love to be able to make the mSafety purchase a one off cost, as we know it isn't cheap and our users have a lot of other equipment costs. However the ability to provide an always connected, live tracking and emergency alerting device and the life saving services that support it is dependent on a number of services that bear an ongoing cost.
The mSafety device is always connected to the LTE-M cellular network, which is why it is able to send your live data and emergency alerts at any time. This is similar to your mobile phone and the data contracts that you would be familiar with.
Without this connection, which is covered by all subscription plans, the mSafety will not be able to perform any of its functions.

Yes, the BuddySwim OZEANX goggles feature UV400 protection, offering 100% protection against UVA, UVB, and UVC rays. This ensures that your eyes are protected not only from water but also from harmful sun exposure, which is especially beneficial when swimming outdoors.
Dog Life Jacket
Why does my dog need a life jacket?
Even though many dogs are good swimmers, there are situations where a flotation device can be lifesaving:
- Dogs that are just learning to swim
- Water sports such as SUP or kayaking
- Strong currents or waves
- Older or sick dogs
- Long distances to shore
Professional Rescue
Operational Use & Equipment
Who is RESTUBE LIFEGUARD for?
What benefits does RESTUBE LIFEGUARD offer for professional lifeguards?
RESTUBE LIFEGUARD is specifically designed for professional lifeguards and offers the following benefits:
- Rapid deployment: Reliable pull activation inflates the device within seconds
- Unrestricted mobility: No drag while swimming toward the victim, activation can be precisely triggered when in close contact, even if the victim is submerged
- High visibility: Signal yellow buoy (75 N buoyancy) with reflective markings for maximum visibility -
- Safe operation: The system features a 175 cm tow line, allowing lifeguards to maintain a safe distance from the individual in distress.
- Durability and reusability: Developed in collaboration with water rescue teams, tested for up to 200 deployments
- Easy rearming and maintanance: Replaceable CO₂ cartridge and user-friendly design enable rapid readiness for next use.
What is the difference between RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 75 and AUTOMATIC 180?
RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 75 is designed for single-person rescue.
It provides 75 N of buoyancy and is compact, lightweight, and easy to deploy – from shore, boat, via drone or helicopter.
Ideal for rapid response scenarios involving a single person requiring immediate flotation.
RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 180 is specifically developed for multi-person rescue.
With 180 N of buoyancy, the system provides immediate flotation support for up to four individuals – ideal for multi-person rescue operations.
Both systems are robust, reusable, and activate automatically upon contact with water.
They enable first responders to deliver buoyancy from a safe distance – fast and without physical contact.
A detailed comparison of both systems can be found here.
How can I use RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 75 to protect my drone?
More and more drone owners are protecting their drone in case of a crash over water. The goal is to be able to recover the drone. On the one hand, the batteries should not be left in the water, on the other hand, the recorded data is valuable and the insurance companies usually do not pay if the drone can no longer be found. If your drone crashes into the water, a AUTOMATIC 75 can prevent it from sinking, allowing it to be retrieved. AUTOMATIC 75 is a buoy that inflates itself within seconds on contact with water using a CO2 cartridge. The immediate buoyancy of the buoy is 7.5 kg. This means that drones with a take-off weight of up to 6.5 kg can be easily kept afloat with AUTOMATIC 75. Heavier drones can be equipped with multiple AUTOMATIC 75 to increase lift accordingly.
For more useful info and tips on this topic, check out our blog post “A life buoy for your drone”.
Are there any dedicated drop mechanism for AUTOMATIC 75 or AUTOMATIC 180?
At present, RESTUBE does not provide own deployment systems for UAV platforms.
Given the diversity of drone models and the rapid evolution of UAV technology, rescue teams typically implement customized deployment solutions. These are often developed in close collaboration with drone manufacturers and system integrators to ensure operational safety and compatibility.
Can RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 180 be used as an alternative to a traditional lifebuoy?
Since RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 180 provides at least 100 N of buoyancy and, when combined with a floating rescue line of at least 10 meters, it is recognized as an approved rescue throw device in certain regions of Germany and can be used as an alternative to a traditional lifebuoy. Please ensure to verify the applicable rules and regulations in your country.
Additional advantages of the system include:
- Automatic inflation upon water contact
- 180 N Auftrieb: ausreichend für bis zu vier Personen
- Compact and lightweight design for convenient storage and transport
- Versatile deployment methods: manual throw, drone, helicopter, or vehicle drop
- Modular options for adding rescue lines and signaling equipment
Who is RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 75 for?
With RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 75, the rescue buoy inflates itself on contact with water. This makes the system perfect for first responders such as lifeguards, firefighters and civil protection organisations. They can throw the AUTOMATIC 75 to a casualty from a distance.
The AUTOMATIC 75 also complements the safety equipment on board and prepares for 'man overboard' emergencies.
Another application for AUTOMATIC 75 is to secure drones. If a drone equipped with AUTOMATIC 75 falls into the water, the safety buoy will keep it afloat and it can be rescued.
How can I use my drone for water rescue?
RESTUBE AUTOMATIC 75 buoys, which are positioned by drones precisely near a person and inflate automatically upon contact with water, are being tested all over the world by lifeguards together with RESTUBE and are already successful in daily use at over a hundred beaches. From the safe shore, rescuers steer the drone to the casualty and place AUTOMATIC 75 there. There are a number of drop mechanisms for this purpose, some developed by and with drone rescuers, some in cooperation with drone manufacturers. Drones from 1 kg load capacity (e.g. DJI Mavic Pro, Phantom and similar) can safely carry AUTOMATIC 75 with the weight of 200 g even in strong wind. Feel free to get in touch if you are interested in water rescue with your drone and have any questions.
Maintenance
Are RESTUBE rescue devices approved for night-time operations?
All RESTUBE devices are delivered without integrated lighting. For use in low-light conditions, we recommend combining them with reflective accessories such as the RESTUBE reflector strip or the optional LED light. Both solutions significantly enhance visibility and are ideal for operations at night or in poor visibility environments.
How long is the expected lifespan of the replacement components?
CO₂ cartridges have a service life of 5 years, and water activators of 4 years.
Both components must be replaced no later than the end of their respective service lives – or earlier in the event of corrosion, damage, or deployment. They are low-cost consumables and can be easily replaced.
What are the recommended maintenance and replacement intervals?
RESTUBE recommends a visual inspection of the system prior to each use.
For professional applications a comprehensive functional check should be performed at least once per year. Following deployment, the device must be rearmed to ensure operational readiness.
Is user maintenance possible for RESTUBE rescue devices?
Yes, RESTUBE rescue devices are designed for easy self-maintenance.
Maintenance includes visual inspection, drying after use, and replacing consumable components after activation. A detailed user manual is included with each device and also available online.
Water activities
Will a RESTUBE buoy pull me up if I trigger it underwater while freediving?
Yes. If you trigger RESTUBE Safety Buoy underwater, the buoy generates lift and pulls you upward via the safety leash connected to the belt. The same amount of gas is released into the buoy every time. This volume is designed to provide maximum buoyancy at the water surface (1 bar, ambient temperature). As depth increases, ambient pressure rises (approx. +1 bar per 10 m), the gas is compressed, and the resulting buoyancy decreases accordingly.
Buoyancy depending on depth:
-
0m depth = 1 bar = fullbuoyancy = 75N = 7.5kg
-
10m depth = 2 bar = half buoyancy = 37.5N = 3.75 kg
-
20m depth = 3 bar = third buoyancy = 25N = 2.5 kg
-
30m depth = 4 bar = quarter buoyancy = 18.75N = 1.87 kg
-
40m depth = 5 bar = fifth buoyancy = 15 N = 1.5 kg
As you ascend and the pressure decreases, the gas expands and the buoyancy of the buoy increases continuously until full buoyancy is available again at the surface.
Important safety notice:
Freediving is a beautiful and intense way to experience the water, but it comes with real risks. For this reason, it should only be practiced with proper training and always with experienced dive partners – never alone, even with personal safety equipment. Safety always comes first so that the experience in the water remains free, relaxed, and unforgettable.

Why do you talk about drowning statistics so much?
This is an important topic – and one we believe in addressing openly. The World Health Organization (WHO) regularly publishes the "Global Status Report on Drowning Prevention", confirming alarming statistics time and again. National organizations like the DLRG provide equally important insights. This is exactly what drives us: we want to change these numbers. With our RESTUBE products, we give you the freedom and safety to enjoy the water to the fullest. On our blog you'll find expert knowledge and valuable tips on water safety.
Where does RESTUBE produce?
We craft our RESTUBE gear with the utmost care, primarily in Vietnam. Responsibility is key to our process: Our production facilities adhere to strict social and environmental standards. We don’t just rely on checkboxes and paperwork; we regularly verify conditions personally and through independent external audits. This ensures you get a premium product that is ethically and sustainably made.
At RESTUBE, water safety comes first. Should I be afraid of the water?
Water is about freedom, not fear. It’s a fascinating element, but one that demands healthy respect. Even expert swimmers can face the unexpected — a sudden cramp, broken gear, or the need to rescue someone else. That’s where the RESTUBE buoy gives you the edge. With your personal safety backup in your pocket, you’re always prepared. The instant buoyancy drastically reduces risk, giving you the calm confidence to handle any situation with ease.
Where is the RESTUBE buoy developed?
Every detail of a RESTUBE buoy is designed in Germany. Starting at the University of Karlsruhe (KIT), the founder of RESTUBE, Christopher Fuhrhop, evolved the initial concept for an all-round safety device into a working prototype and, step by step, established his own production line in collaboration with experienced partners.
We rely on precise German engineering to guarantee top-tier quality and functionality. Our innovations are born from close collaboration with technical universities and professional lifeguards.
